Vigyansh ("we," "our," or "us") is an AI-powered educational tutoring platform for NCERT students in India, operated by Imbine Technologies ("Company"), a technology firm headquartered in New Delhi, India. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect personal information when you use the Vigyansh platform accessible at vigyansh.com and app.vigyansh.com.
By accessing or using Vigyansh, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you are a minor (under 18 years), your parent or guardian must review and consent to this policy on your behalf.
This policy is compliant with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) of India and applicable provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000 and its rules.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Account Information
When you register for Vigyansh, we collect:
- Email address - used for account creation, login, and communication
- Password - stored as a bcrypt hash; never stored in plaintext
- Grade / Class level - used to calibrate AI responses to your curriculum level
1.2 Learning & Conversation Data
To provide tutoring functionality, we collect and store:
- Questions and messages you type or speak in the tutoring interface
- Conversation history - stored server-side to support session continuity, multi-turn dialogue, and future learning features
- AI responses - stored alongside your questions as part of your conversation record
- Internal pedagogical state - information such as whether you are in "Socratic" or "explain" mode, stored server-side and never exposed in responses
1.3 Uploaded Photos & OCR Data
Vigyansh allows you to photograph printed questions or handwritten work for OCR extraction. Uploaded images are processed via our OCR service and the extracted text is returned to you for editing. Image files are not permanently stored and are processed ephemerally; they are not retained after the OCR operation completes.
1.4 Technical & Usage Data
We automatically collect standard technical information:
- IP address and general geographic location (country/city level)
- Browser type, device type, and operating system
- Pages visited, session duration, and feature usage within the platform
- Error logs and diagnostic reports
2. How We Use Your Information
- Providing the Service: To authenticate you, retrieve your conversation history, calibrate AI answers to your class level, and render visualizations.
- Improving the Platform: To analyze how students interact with the tutor and improve AI accuracy, pedagogy, and visualization quality. Analysis is performed on aggregated or pseudonymized data.
- Safety & Security: To detect abuse, prevent unauthorized access, and maintain the integrity of the platform.
- Legal Compliance: To comply with applicable laws, respond to lawful government requests, and enforce our Terms of Service.
- Communications: To send you account-related emails (e.g., registration confirmation, password reset). We do not send marketing emails unless you explicitly opt in.
3. Sharing of Information
We do not sell, rent, or lease your personal data to third parties. We may share data with:
- AI Processing Services: Conversation data is sent to Google's Gemini API for AI response generation. This is subject to Google's data processing terms. We do not send personally identifiable information (e.g., your email or name) to the AI model - only your question text and relevant textbook context.
- Infrastructure Providers: Our servers and databases run on cloud infrastructure. Service providers are bound by data processing agreements and may not use data for their own purposes.
- Legal Authorities: If required by law, court order, or government authority under applicable Indian laws.
4. Data Retention
- Account data is retained for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion at any time.
- Conversation history is retained to support ongoing learning continuity. You may delete individual conversations from within the app.
- Technical logs are retained for up to 90 days for security and diagnostic purposes.
- OCR images are not retained after processing.
5. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including bcrypt password hashing, HTTPS encryption in transit, HTTP-only session cookies with SameSite=Lax protection, and regular security audits. However, no system is 100% secure. If you suspect unauthorized access to your account, contact us immediately.
6. Children's Privacy
Vigyansh is designed for students from Class 5 (approximately age 10) and above. Students under 18 should use the platform with the knowledge and consent of a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 10. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 10 without parental consent, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
7. Your Rights Under the DPDP Act, 2023
As a data principal under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (India), you have the right to:
- Access - obtain a summary of personal data we hold about you
- Correction - correct inaccurate or incomplete personal data
- Erasure - request deletion of your personal data (subject to legal retention requirements)
- Grievance Redressal - raise a complaint with our Grievance Officer
- Nomination - nominate another individual to exercise your rights in the event of death or incapacity

8. Cookies and Local Storage
Vigyansh uses an HTTP-only session cookie to maintain your authenticated session on the app. The marketing website (vigyansh.com) uses localStorage only to remember your theme preference (dark/light mode). We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.
9. Third-Party Links
Our website may contain links to third-party sites (e.g., imbine.com, rozmo.in). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites. We encourage you to review their privacy policies.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of Vigyansh after such changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
